Sam "The Caveman" Liera: Ready for war
The former BYB Super Middleweight Champion returns to the Trigon in a rematch with the ever-dangerous Ryan Jett February 22 in Denver at BYB 37.
Sam Liera is a man of few words. But he is a violent man.
Stepping into his seventh bare knuckle bout with an unblemished record, Liera looks to do what he does best at BYB 37: he looks to brawl.
Liera is the only man to have beaten LT Nelson. He’s beaten his opponent at BYB 37, Ryan Jett. But he puts no thought into what he’s done. Instead, he thinks about what he’s about to do: shed blood.

Sam Liera: A love of violence
Sam Liera was born to fight. He’s not been able to make his way to the Trigon, BYB’s fighting ring, since August of 2023. Now, “The Caveman” is ready to get back to action.
“I am actually very excited and was very bored.”
Bored, he says. Not hungry, not nervous. He fights because he enjoys it. Liera doesn’t step into the ring and into a bare knuckle boxing bout because he’s chasing accolades. He’s not even after a title. The man relishes the fight. The violence.
Taking out the king
Famously, Liera has a win over Nelson. The man they call “Smash” has achieved incredible things since his loss to Liera, capturing both the current BYB Middleweight and Super Middleweight. But Liera does not covet what Nelson has or what he’s accomplished.
“Good for him,” says Liera. When asked if he has his eyes on Nelson’s title(s), Liera was very nonchalant. “Not really,” he said. It’s safe to say that Liera is not looking ahead past his opponent at BYB 37, who he had much more to say about.
“Ryan Jett is a very tough opponent and I am not taking him lightly. I think he’s been preparing harder for this fight and I might see a different Jett.”
When asked why to tune in to BYB 37 to watch his rematch with Ryan Jett, Sam Liera gave a very measured answer. It didn’t give away too much and promise the stars. “Fans should tune because we will both put on a show and it will be bloody.”
That seems like a standard answer. But when one takes into consideration what Sam Liera has done in the past, the answer becomes a bit more ominous.
