David Winiarski: “I feel I'm getting overlooked”
Winiarksi takes on Simey Doherty March 22 at BKB 38 in Wolverhampton, England
An MMA vet, David Winiarski has found his home in BKB.
With a win in his bare knuckle debut last October, Winiarski is ready for his sophomore outing. He’s taking on the ever-durable Simey Doherty at BKB 38: Wolves Brawl II.
The Scotland prospect will look to make another statement victory and begin his ascent up the BKB super middleweight rankings. His task ahead will be treacherous.
David Winiarski takes on Simey Doherty at BKB 38 on March 22. The show will be broadacst in North America at 8PM ET on Vice. Live pay-per-view coverage outside of North America will begin at 5 PM GMT at bkbworld.tv. Learn how to watch below!
David Winiarski: “I can't wait to hit someone with this!”
With boxing and MMA experience under his belt, David Winiarski was taken aback by how little protection he was to get in his bare knuckle debut. Make no mistake, he knew it was bare knuckle. But seeing that his wrists were the only thing wrapped was the moment the UK native knew it was about to go down.
“First time in the Trigon, first time throwing hands without gloves on,” Winiarski says, “I didn't know what to expect. I remember getting my hands wrapped, well my wrist, and thinking, ‘Wow, is this it? This can't be right. I can't wait to hit someone with this!’ After throwing the first punch and seeing the damage bone to bone causes, I was hooked. Sign me up!”
In regard to his boxing experience, Winiarski has a 2-2 record with a knockout. He believes that the boxing experience paid massive dividends for his debut.
“I think having a good bit of boxing background definitely helps in there. Otherwise you're just some crazy guy in there throwing hands hoping for one to land. I picked my shots. I want each one to land with intent.”
David Winiarski also has a fairly extensive mixed martial arts record. The Goliath MMA fighter has accumulated a 6-2 amateur record. He believes that this also has helped him in his BKB debut fight.
“I feel like both helped. With MMA, you’re avoiding takedowns, kicks, knees. So when you strip all that back and all I have to watch is the hands, piece of cake.”
Not to be counted out
David Winiarski does not look to be counted out at BKB 38: Wolves Brawl II. He is insanely motivated for his upcoming fight with Simey Doherty. But he can’t help but feel like Doherty is overlooking him and that has lit a fire under him.
“You only have to be following my socials to see how motivated I am. I seen his post introducing him into the company and one line got me going: ‘after this fight he will be looking to go into title contention.’ It made me feel I'm getting overlooked because he's very established in this sport and I'm just getting started. So that started a fire in me and I haven't stopped. I'm coming in there the best version of me yet, just you wait and see!”
That’s not to say that Winiarski is counting out Doherty. He knows that the promotional newcomer is a tough task at hand. But that’s what makes this fight so exciting. Winiarski promises bloodshed, a pound of flesh.
“Simey is a skilled boxer, and so am I. If you want to see two titans going to war, trying to figure out a way to draw the most amounts of blood out of each other, and leave each other needing medical attention, then tune in.”
